PALM SUNDAY PALM SUNDAY CELEBRATION IN TOLEDO

With Palm Sunday begins the big week of the Christian Holy Week. In churches around the world dress up to celebrate and commemorate the paschal mystery of Christ.

In the liturgy of this Sunday there are two parts:

  1. The solemn procession commemorating Jesus' entry into the temple.

  2. Holy Mass with the chanting of the Lord's Passion.

The altar prepared for Holy Mass SOLEMN PROCESSION ***
This conclusion comes from Jerusalem, where in the fourth century in the same place happened in the scene recounted in the Gospel Procession (Mt 21, 1-9), Bishop mounted on a asn, going from the top of Mount Olivet Church of the Resurrection Hasle, surrounded by the clergy and people, carrying olive branches and singing hymns to Christ the King. In the ninth century the procession went to the Latin rite.
"At that time, Jesus came to Jerusalem, arriving in Bethpage, before the Mount of Olives then sent two of his disciples, saying," Go into the village ahead of you, and soon find a donkey tied, and her colt with her: loose them and bring them to me here. And if anyone says something, you will reply that the Lord hath need, and to the point you leave him. All this happened in fulfillment of what the Prophet said: Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee meek, sitting on a donkey and her colt, the son of which is accustomed to the yoke. Having gone and done the disciples as Jesus commanded, and brought the donkey and her colt, and saddled with his clothes, and made him sit up. And a large crowd of people stretched out on the way his clothes, and others cut branches from trees and spread them on the road. And the crowd went before and those who followed cried after saying Hosamna the Son of David, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord "
(Mt 21, 1-9).
The Lord followed a triumphant tour, which only he knew its true meaning, totally ignored by those who accompanied him and by those who cheered him: You were going as the sun goes to a decline of glory, singing and your death to sing your victory. But you are the King, the Lord, the Mighty God, Life, reborn from the bottom of Death (Hymn to Christ the King).

MASS
After the procession, the priest takes off red ornaments and take the purple chasuble for the celebration of Holy Mass. The songs, prayers, readings from Scripture revolve around passion and death of the Lord. After the priest says reading, singing of the Passion: "Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice, gave up his spirit"; all prostrate ourselves. The Son of God died on the cross. the road Jesus embarks from atop the Mount of Olives is nothing new, as it confirms their life story, but it is irreversible. Is the way of humiliation that would culminate in exaltation, defeat path that will take the win, way off that burst into light, cross road in resurrection dawn. His way is the way of delivery and death that we Life will bring everybody.

Ave Crux, Spes nostra!
